In A Hurry?
So there I am, cruising at 35 mph in traffic, chilling to some mellow jazz on WDUQ, 90.5, when out of no where some jackoff in some little sporty assed car whizzes past and cuts me off.
EXCUSE ME ?!?
Where the hell are you going that's so important? How monumental are you that it's ok to risk people's property and lives so you can get somewhere? Who's chest cavity is cracked open waiting for you to transplant their heart? Just a little hint: You're not that important. You're also dangerous.
Let me share with ya'll a little scene I saw one day 2 years ago. I was driving to work in Monroeville. At the intersection of 66 and 22 in Delmont, I arrived at the turning lane. It must have just happened. The dump truck was stopped a few feet from the Yukon. Those Yukon's are pretty big SUV's. The lady in the SUV must have pulled out in front of the dump truck, or maybe the dump truck tried to blow a red light. It really didn't matter at that point. The lady was slumped over, her body hanging out above her waist. She was dead. I didn't see her forearm where it should be connected, it just wasn't there. The impact must have tore it off. She had blonde shoulder length curly hair. It was such a beautiful, sunny day. The breeze blew her hair in the wind. There were people crowded around, all calling 911 on their cell phones. No one was sure how close to get to the body. It was obvious there was nothing that could be done.
Like I said, I'm not sure who was at fault, but someone fucked up. That one little oops shook up so many people, it's amazing. That truck driver will remember that every time he starts a vehicle. Those people on their cell phones will always remember that feeling of hopelessness. I will always remember that blonde curly hair blowing in the wind. It was such a beautiful day. That day was ruined by someone's bad judgement.
The next time you're in a hurry, think of the consequences of every action we make. Sometimes, nothing happens. Other times, people's lives are shattered. Kinda puts being reckless under a new light, huh?
